Harbor Seal Tote Bag
The Harbor Seal (Phoca vitulina), from Alfred Edmund Brehm's Brehms Tierleben (1900), volume 2. Historical color natural-history illustration depicting harbor seals resting along a sandy coastline, accompanied by seabirds.
The harbor seal (Phoca vitulina), also known as the common seal, inhabits coastal waters throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Its spotted coat varies considerably between individuals, ranging from pale cream with dark markings to nearly black with lighter spots. Harbor seals can remain underwater for more than 20 minutes and use their sensitive whiskers to detect movements and pressure changes in the water, allowing them to track fish even in darkness or murky conditions. Unlike sea lions, harbor seals cannot rotate their hind flippers forward beneath their bodies and instead move across land by undulating their bodies.
